Mekel Bailey is an Emmy and CDG nominated Costume Designer renowned for his ability to bring characters to life through costume design. Whether in film, TV, commercials, or celebrity styling, Mekel’s work elevates narratives, making costumes an essential part of storytelling.

Before transitioning into film and TV, Mekel had an extensive and successful career in celebrity styling and fashion, working with high profile artists such as Nicki Minaj and Kelly Rowland. This experience sharpened his eye for detail and his understanding of how fashion can express identity, providing a strong foundation for his seamless move into costume design.

Mekel gained widespread acclaim for his work on the Netflix original series Baby Reindeer, based on Richard Gadd's award-winning play and produced by Clerkenwell Films. The series became a global phenomenon and one of Netflix's most watched shows, earning 11 nominations at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards. Mekel received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Contemporary Costumes for a Limited or Anthology Series, as well as a Costume Designers Guild Award nomination for his standout work on the production. Baby Reindeer went on to win six Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.

Following the success of Baby Reindeer, Mekel designed The Witness for STV and Netflix, directed by Alex Winckler. The series debuted at number one globally on Netflix and opened to a 100% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes, further cementing Mekel's reputation for shaping visually distinctive, emotionally resonant screen worlds. He is currently designing Wahala for BBC One, directed by Leonora Lonsdale and written by Theresa Ikoko.

Alongside his work in television and film, Mekel has built an acclaimed portfolio in commercials and branded content, earning three British Arrows Craft Award nominations for his costume design.

His nominated projects include Make My Money Matter: Oblivia Coalmine, directed by Raine Allen-Miller; Facebook Portal: Life Lessons from Grandparents / Lesson No. 5: Life's A Stage, directed by Luke Brookner; and Keanan: Current Account Switch Service, directed by Bedroom.

Across every medium, Mekel brings a cinematic eye, emotional sensitivity, and a deeply collaborative approach to costume design, crafting work that shapes distinctive characters and enriches the worlds they inhabit.
