Mekel Bailey is an Emmy-nominated Costume Designer renowned for his ability to bring characters to life through costume design. Whether in film, TV, commercials, or celebrity styling, Mekel’s work elevates narratives, making costumes an essential part of storytelling.
Before transitioning into film and TV, Mekel had an extensive and successful career in celebrity styling and fashion, working with high-profile artists such as Nicki Minaj and Kelly Rowland. This experience sharpened his eye for detail and his understanding of how fashion can express identity, providing a strong foundation for his seamless move into costume design.
Mekel made a significant impact with his work on Baby Reindeer, a Netflix original series based on Richard Gadd’s award-winning play. The show quickly became one of Netflix’s most-watched, earning 11 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Contemporary Costumes for a Limited or Anthology Series. Mekel was also nominated for a Costume Designers Guild Award for his standout work on the show. Baby Reindeer went on to win six Emmys, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.
Mekel also worked on The Witness for STV and Netflix, directed by Alex Winckler, continuing his tradition of creating striking, memorable visuals. In the commercial realm, his work has earned recognition, with British Arrows Craft Award nominations for Make My Money Matter: Oblivia Coalmine (directed by Raine Allen Miller) and Facebook Portal: Life Lessons from Grandparents (directed by Luke Brookner).
